IPhO 2024 - First Circular

 

The Organizing Committee of IPhO 2024 extends a warm invitation to your country to participate in the 54^th International Physics Olympiad. Set against the backdrop of the historic city of Isfahan, Iran. The event will take place from July 21^st to 29^th, 2024. Isfahan University of Technology (IUT), located 18 km northwest of the city center, will be the esteemed venue for the Olympiad.

We enthusiastically anticipate hosting leaders, observers, visitors, and talented students from your country in this global competition, dedicated to fostering international collaboration and friendship within the scientific community.

 

Requirement for Team Participant

Participants are required to adhere to the IPhO statutes, which stipulate that each national team may consist of up to five students and two leaders. Contestants must be general or technical secondary school students, excluding those enrolled in technical colleges. Eligible students could have completed their school examinations in 2024 without commencing university studies and should not exceed twenty years of age by June 30^th, 2024.

Delegation leaders must possess expertise in physics or physics education and be capable of solving competition problems. Additionally, each of them should be able to communicate in English. Alongside delegations, teams may be accompanied by observers and visitors. While observers may attend all Olympiad meetings, including those of the International Board, they do not possess voting rights or active participation in discussions. Visitors, on the other hand, are not permitted to attend International Board meetings.

 

Confirmation of Participation
To confirm participation, we kindly request the representative leader (or the official contact person) of each participating team to complete the pre-registration form, available from February 1^st, 2024 via https://www.ipho2024.ir/team/login . Please do it no later March 31^st, 2024. We will send username and password to each individual contact person. This will assist us in gauging the interest of countries and enable effective communication with prospective participating teams. It is important to note that submitting the pre-registration form does not signify formal commitment to IPhO 2024, nor does it act as a formal invitation from the organizer to the team. The Second Circular and Full Registration site will be accessible in April 2024.

 

Fees and Expenses

Fees and expenses related to your delegation's participation cover hospitality essentials such as food, accommodation, excursions, and IPhO transports, commencing from 00:00 UTC+3:30 on Sunday, July 21^st, 2024, to 16:00 UTC+3:30 on Monday, July 29^th, 2024.

Key ceremony dates include the IPhO 2024 Opening Ceremony on Sunday, July 22^nd, 2024, in the morning, and the Closing Ceremony on Saturday, July 28^th, 2024, in the morning.

Participation fees are as follows:

•           Regular delegation (5 students, 2 leaders): EUR 3500

•           Smaller size delegation (< 5 students and/or < 2 leaders): EUR 500 per participant

•           Observers: EUR 2000 per person

•           Visitors: EUR 2000 per person

 

Visa

Travelers of these countries can travel to Iran without a visa:

Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, China, Syria, Iraq, Oman, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Lebanon, Malaysia, Venezuela.

Travelers from other countries need a visa to travel to Iran. Iran visa will be issued electronically and no stamp will be placed on the passports. The organizing committee has tried to facilitate the process of getting visas for the teams. For this purpose, the contact person will enter all the required information (personal details, passport number, etc.) in the registration form. This should be done between April 20 and May 20, 2024. Then the committee sends this information to the Iran Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

After the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visa will be issued in all Iran representations (including embassies, consulates, etc.) or the airport of the entrance to Iran. Visa applicants must specify in advance from which mentioned methods they want to receive a visa. Getting a visa at the airport takes between 20 and 30 minutes. It is not necessary for all team members to be present in order to receive a visa from the Iran embassies, consulates, and any other official representations, and their legal delegate can act on their behalf.

Few countries cannot receive their visas at the airport of entry to Iran. They are USA, UK, Canada, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Jordan, Colombia, Somalia, and Afghanistan.

 

Accommodation

Accommodation arrangements dictate that all students will be housed within the dormitory located at the IUT campus, the venue for IPhO 2024. Leaders, observers, and visitors will be accommodated at the Sheikh Bahaie Hotel, situated inside the IUT campus.

Transportation from the airports
Transportation to and from Isfahan (Shahid Beheshti Airport) or Tehran (Imam Khomeini Airport) from and to IUT or the hotel will be organized and covered by the Organizing Committee.

Periodic notifications will be disseminated to individuals who have expressed their interest in the Olympiad. These notifications encompass essential details regarding the Olympiad, encompassing organizational issues, travel arrangements, and related matters.
