3^rd Circular, IPhO 2024

Dear Colleagues,

While you are preparing to participate in the 54^th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2024), we in the organizing team are tirelessly working to ensure a remarkable event and a memorable trip for you and your young talents. Along the same lines, please find below a number last minute announcements and additional information to hopefully help your travel plans.

The IPhO 2024 officially starts on July 21^st in Isfahan and ends on July 29^th. We are looking forward to seeing you and enjoying the program together.

Information on Participants

There are 46 participating countries and regions in this event:

Country’s Flag

Please bring one or two examples of your country’s flag with the dimension of about

 75cm x 100cm.

Travel Insurance

Each delegation is advised to take out an appropriate travel insurance policy. Emergency medical services will be provided by the organizers.

Visa upon Arrival

If you use have requested for a visa at the airport, there will be a fee per person that ranges between 30 to 100 Euros depending on your country. Please bring a copy of visa code besides your passport.   

Travel and Airport Pickup

        For your convenience, it is very important for us to know about your itinerary. In case you haven’t provided the information yet, please fill out the form “Itinerary of Team” at https://www.ipho2024.ir/team/initRegistration the soonest possible. The organizing committee has arranged the transportation from the airport, being Shahid Beheshti International Airport (on 19-21 July and 29-31 July) in Isfahan or Imam Khomeini International Airport (on July 21^st and July 29^th) in Teheran, to the venue of IPhO 2024.

We strongly advise to use the means of transport provided by the organizing committee. Nevertheless, below is the address of the IPhO 2024 venue:

Registration Desk

     All teams are brought to the IPhO 2024 venue. The leaders, observers, and visitors are welcome at the reception of the Hasht Behesht hotel where their stay is foreseen. Students will attend the reception desk at Sadra dormitory. They will receive their tag and the IPhO 2024 package.

The registration fee as well as extra hoteling charges can be paid in Euro.

  At the reception, you will receive information about how to exchange your currency with IRR to be able to buy goods whenever needed.

Stay in Sadra Dormitory

     Students will attend the reception desk at Sadra dormitory. They will receive their tag and the IPhO 2024 package.

Students have to deposit all their electronic devices with communication capability, mobile phones, personal computers, tablets, smart watches. Failure to comply with this rule may result in disqualification of the entire team. Those electronic devices will be handed back after completion of the theory exam on Thursday.
The Sadra dormitory is prepared to host students. Rooms are equipped to accommodate 2–4 guests. There will be shared bathrooms. Laundry units with washing machines and detergents are provided in exchange for some cash.

Health Advices

Given the warm and dry weather of Isfahan, there is no need for dryers. Instead, there will be hangers for washed clothes. Soaps and normal shampoos will be supplied. Students are supposed to take care of other hygienic as well as personal items including towel and tooth brush. A limited amount of sunscreens can be purchased at IUT drugstore. In addition, please beware of the dry and very sunny weather: do bring sunscreen and sun protecting caps. It is also advisable to bring insect repellant and anti-itch creams.

The IUT medical center is open 24/7. Standard medications will be provided. Please bring your medication if you suffer from chronic ailment and/or carry risk of disease. Make sure to also inform your team guide. On a similar topic, please be warned that narcotic drugs and alcoholic drinks are strictly forbidden in Iran.

Hasht Behesht Hotel

The hotel will serve leaders, and a number of observers and visitors. Other observers and visitors will be accommodated in suites near the hotel.

 We have done our best to meet your needs within our capacities. The rooms will be equipped with towels, soaps and shampoos. The room service will be provided free of charge. The use of laundry and minibar will however be charged to your room, to be paid at the end of your stay.

Miscellaneous
 

• IPhO 2024 does not have any special dress code except that the national rules and cultural norms in this regard are followed closely. According to Islamic Republic of Iran’s rules women should wear Hijab, especially in formal meetings. One set of acceptable Hijab will be provided for each female participant by the organizer. Also gentlemen are not allowed to wear short trousers.   
• Summers are hot and dry in Isfahan. The temperature inside can reach to 25 Celsius using evaporative cooler while outside it may go beyond 38.
• In case of heat waves please make sure to drink enough water and to regularly take shower to avoid dehydration. However, it would still be advisable one piece of slightly warmer cloth in case the temperature drops during nights
• For the excursions and team games during the day, make sure to bring a pair of comfortable shoes, a sun-protecting cap can sunscreen to be used as necessary.
• Iran operates on a 220V supply voltage and 50Hz. There are two associated plug types, types C and F. Plug type C is the plug which has two round pins and plug type F is the plug which has two round pins with two earth clips on the side. Please make sure to bring the suitable adaptor.
• Although the tap water can be drunk, we recommend drinking bottled water which will be provided by the organizers.
• Please observe the non-smoking rules of IPhO 2024. Alcoholic drinks and narcotic drugs are strictly forbidden at any conditions.

 

International Board Meeting

The venue for the International Board Meeting is the Central Library of IUT, where leaders date and observers can attend. At IPhO 2024 we make use of Olympify Tool for discussion, voting, translation, marking and managing the exam.

Calculator

All contestants will use Casio fx-82-ES-Plus 2nd edition calculator to be provided by the organizer. A user guide of calculator is here:

In order to save the exam time, it is highly recommended that contestants learn and practice the various capabilities of this calculator such as entering data of a curve, fitting linear, exponential and power functions to the data with calculator functions, finding their fitting parameters and especially defining the desired function and creating a table with it.
