Arrival and Departure

Isfahan international airport is located in the North-East of Isfahan at a distance of about 20 kilometers. There are several international flights to and from this airport. The organizing committee tries to manage the program such that the majority of teams be able to arrive at and depart from Isfahan airport.

The Climate

Iran has a diverse climate due to its vast size and varied topography, but in general, it is a dry and semi-arid country. Summers tend to be hot and dry, while winters can be cold and snowy in the northern regions.

Isfahan, located in central Iran, experiences hot and arid summers with daytime temperatures averaging around 35-40°C (95-104°F) in July. It’s important to note that Isfahan is a desert city, so the temperature can drop significantly at night, sometimes up to 20-25°C (68-77°F) lower than daytime temperatures.

Therefore, when visiting Isfahan in early July, it’s essential to pack lightweight, breathable clothing such as cotton or linen fabrics, loose-fitting pants, and long-sleeved shirts to protect against the sun. A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen with a high SPF rating are also highly recommended to protect against the intense sunlight. Additionally, it’s crucial to drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated.

Overall, visitors to Isfahan in early July should prepare for hot and dry weather and take appropriate measures to protect themselves from the sun and stay hydrated.

Currency

While the Rial is the official currency, the Toman is the more commonly used currency in everyday life due to its ease of use in smaller denominations. One Toman is equivalent to 10 Rials. There are lots of exchange offices in big cities and popular currencies can be easily exchanged. The current exchange rates for 1 US Dollar and 1 Euro are 52000 and 55000 Toman respectively

Food

The main Persian cuisines are combinations of bread, rice with meat, chicken or fish and plenty of vegetables, herbs, fruits, and nuts. Iranian food is not very spicy or hot, only some mild spices such as saffron, dried limes, golden fried onions, and cinnamon are used.

During IPhO 2024, the delegates will be served foods considered more or less international, together with few Iranian dishes each meal.

Electricity

Household electricity voltage in Iran is 220 volts (50 Hz) with two-pin outlet. Make sure your charger and electronics are compatible with this voltage. If needed, please bring a three-pin to two-pin adapter.
