The ceremony began with the recitation of verses from the Quran and the playing of the Iranian national anthem, followed by a welcome speech from Dr. Mirmohammadi Meibodi, President of Isfahan University of Technology. He stated, The presence of distinguished students from around the world at the Isfahan University of Technology will undoubtedly inspire our students and establish a national model for hosting future basic science events.
The next parts of the ceremony included clips titled "Welcome to IUT" and "Preparing to Host the Event," where the audience watched videos of sessions held by various Olympiad committees discussing the event's preparations, along with scenes of reception and welcoming the competitors and their affiliates.
The Iranian Minister of Education then welcomed the audience and spoke about Iran's history at the IPhO, stating, Iranian students have achieved 36 gold medals, 68 silver medals, 39 bronze medals, and 12 honorary diplomas during their participation in the IPhO over the past four decades. The Iranian team was the absolute winner of the IPhO 1997 and has been one of the top ten teams most of the time.
He continued, Iranian medalists are now among the most distinguished physics professors both in Iranian and foreign universities, or prominent figures in industry and economics. As Iran's representative, I am proud of each and every one of them.
Dr. Bahmanabadi, CEO of IPhO2024, said, The International Physics Olympiad, aimed at fostering young people's interest in this pioneering and commendable science, was initiated and globalized nearly six decades ago. The special cultural program of the opening ceremony included a performance of the traditional sport 'Pahlevani and Zoorkhaneh' by the "Little Heroes of Iran," which was well-received by the audience.
